‘New models and fresh approaches’

The Reverend Gradye Parsons, Stated Clerk of the PCUSA and a Bridges Advisory Board member, commented today on the newly released 2010 statistics for the denomination.

Membership in PCUSA churches declined 61,000, continuing a long term trend in the denomination. “These numbers are not what anyone wants to see,” said Rev. Parsons, “It is an important time in the life of the PC(USA),…that will encourage all of us to think differently about how we do church. I anticipate that we’ll see new models and fresh approaches springing up.”

Bridges is one of the new models and fresh approaches that Rev. Parsons and others are seeing as encouraging signs of change.
