BRIDGES was there for me through a really dark time in my life
It wasn’t that long ago that a social worker removed 15-year-old Maria from her home, placing her in a group home with other teenagers in a new city. What was a very serious situation could have taken a dark turn, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Maria was able to reach out to Bridges for help.
Through Bridges, Maria secured a seat in an online Website Building class taught by Bridge Leader Mike Veerman. She was a standout student — so much so, that Mike hired her to help him teach the next class of young people. Now Maria works for Hope IT (when she’s not making straight A’s in school). She also started taking classes at a local college and is planning to become a doctor.
Maria’s story is an example of resilience, hope & God’s mercy coming to bear through a committed Bridge Leader, and a learning opportunity that provided a bridge to new life, relationships & renewed hope. We are grateful for leaders like Mike, who help make such a difference in the lives of others, and for people like Maria, who inspire us to keep moving forward.
